In recognition of the growing importance of blogs as a source of information for e-commerce aspirants, the UK Market-Inspector has named the best e-commerce blogs in 2017. One of the first awards went to the Munich-based online payment service provider PAYMILL.

In 2016, well over a trillion euros have been transacted in e-commerce worldwide, according to the statistics portal Statista. This year it is expected to be around 1.2 trillion euros, an increase of just under 15.7 percent. By 2022, global e-commerce sales are expected to grow to more than two trillion euros. According to figures from the UK web agency Red-Website-Design, global e-commerce trade will even skyrocket to $ 6.7 trillion by 2020, outweighing B2B.

High online proportions in UK and Germany

The US has a higher online per-capita revenue of $ 1,800 per year, but at 14 and just under 13 percent, the United Kingdom and Germany have a significantly higher e-commerce proportion of total trade turnover than our friends over the pond where the proportion in 2016 was only weighted at eight percent. In Germany, the online and mail-order trade, according to the German Association of e-commerce and mail-order (Bundesverband e-commerce und Versandhandel – apprev.: bevh) already exceeded the threshold of 70 billion euros gross.

However, the rapid growth figures are not supposed to hide the fact that the online market is highly competitive. In order to be able to connect and keep up, companies that are planning or already using an e-commerce presence must obtain comprehensive information.

Blogs are becoming an increasingly important source of information. Therefore, the British B2B comparison platform Market-Inspector decided to award “Best e-commerce Blogs of 2017” in five categories: Best E-commerce Inspirational Blog, Marketing Blogs, Platform Blogs, Tips Blogs and Blogs in the UK.

At the top of the inspiring blogs

Right at the top of the list is the blog of the Munich-based online payment service provider PAYMILL in second place on the list of the best e-commerce blogs. The award went to the subsidiary of the Swiss Klik & Pay provider CYBERservices SA in the category “Best e-commerce Inspirational Blogs”. The PAYMILL blog was launched in two languages in 2013 and primarily addresses the German and English-speaking markets.

The justification from Market-Inspector emphasized that the blog not only thrives on contributions from the entire PAYMILL team and marketing chief Lena Seydaack, but also from an international network of guest authors with a variety of exciting and useful posts that are constantly growing and being updated. Thematically, the blog covers tips and tricks from a marketing and sales perspective as well as interesting facts about risk, compliance and security aspects; also niche topics, especially for data specialists and IT developers, are given a chance.

Customer focus as panacea

“Our top tip for anyone looking to build an e-commerce space is the focus on the customer in every decision. Never ask yourself what’s best for you, but what’s best for your customer: How can I design my user experience to be as enjoyable as possible for my clients?”, says PAYMILL’s Head of Marketing Seydaack in the laudatory speech as well as the words: “Let’s be realistic: the air in e-commerce is becoming thinner and thinner, so online merchants can only compete through customer focus and outstanding customer service.”
